Brave Train Employee Receives Critical Wounds During Mass Stabbing Incident on Express Service

A courageous train employee who intervened to save passengers during a mass stabbing attack on a express train has suffered life-threatening injuries, police confirmed on Sunday.

Details of the Frightening Incident

Surveillance footage reportedly depicts the staff member trying to halt the attacker as the train traveled between a city and another station in Cambridgeshire. Witnesses described a frightening 14-minute period after the train left Peterborough, with bloodied passengers fleeing through carriages.

The individual, a 32-year-old citizen from Peterborough, is in detention for interrogation. Police announced a major incident on the 6:25 pm service from Peterborough to King's Cross in downtown London.

Emergency Reaction and Aftermath

The event on Saturday night resulted in 11 people being cared for in medical facilities after the train made an unplanned stop at the station in Huntingdon. Five people have since been discharged from hospital.

A bystander recorded the suspect brandishing a large knife and being subdued with a Taser as he faced officers on the platform. He was allegedly heard shouting, "End my life, end my life."

“This was a horrific attack that has had a wide impact. We are thinking of the victims and their families – particularly the brave employee of rail staff whose family are being supported by trained personnel,” said a high-ranking police officer.

Labor Reaction and Calls for Action

Train associations were quick to praise staff and demand more measures. A labor official stated he would be “requesting immediate meetings with authorities, rail employers and law enforcement to ensure that we have the strongest possible assistance, resources and effective procedures in place”.

A different union representative urged the train operator and authorities “to move quickly to examine safety, to help the impacted employees, and to make sure that no incident like this occurs again”.

Driver Commended for Rapid Action

The operator who halted the train at Huntingdon was described as being “deeply affected” but “good”, and has been praised by association officials for doing “exactly the right thing”.

“He didn’t stop the train in the middle of two stations where it’s clearly challenging for the emergency services to reach, but he carried on going until he got to Huntingdon, where the response was almost waiting,” stated a union official.

Additional Information

Police stated they received the first emergency calls at 7:39 pm, and the service was compelled to make an unscheduled stop in Huntingdon at 7:50 pm.

One witness recounted initially thinking if the event was a Halloween prank, but quickly realized from individuals' faces that it was serious.

Authorities have stated there is nothing to indicate the incident was a terrorist attack and have requested the community to provide with any additional information.

Train operations on the impacted route are expected to have delays until Monday, with passengers recommended to defer their journeys where possible.

Individuals with details that could assist the investigation are asked to reach police by texting a designated number with a case code.
